Universal Constructions has won a multi-million-dollar contract to build a specialist educational facility at Wanneroo Secondary College.

The state government’s Department of Finance awarded the Osborne Park-based builder the contract, valued about $10.4 million, late last month.

Under the contract, Universal Constructions will build a single-storey building and associated car parks as part of the college’s proposed education support centre to cater for students with disabilities.

An education support program and plans for purpose-built facilities at the college in Clarkson was announced in 2023.

The state government committed $12.4 million towards a new program and facilities at Wanneroo Secondary College, to cater for 80 students with low to moderate needs.

In 2023, Education Minister Tony Buti said construction of specialist facilities and an inclusive program would strengthen the enrolment choices in Perth’s north east.

"This new education support program and facilities at the Wanneroo Secondary College will ensure those students with disability can receive the appropriate level of support they require to meet their educational needs, in a local public school,” he said.

The state government said Wanneroo Secondary College was chosen for the education support program because of its ideal location to accommodate students with learning needs nearby and in surrounding suburbs, including Banksia Grove.
