The search is on to find the ‘veinest’ organisation in Western Australia, with the Australian Red Cross Blood Service challenging businesses to donate 2,000 litres of blood during their annual corporate challenge, the Summer Heroes Blood Rush.
The challenge, running from November 29 to February 28 asks blood donors to pledge their donation to their workplace, sports club or social group.
Helping launch the campaign was plastic surgeon and burns specialist Mark Duncan-Smith, Perth businessman Rick Hart and Leah and Andrew Woodcock who are the parents of two year old blood recipient Joshua.
Red Cross communications and marketing officer Trish Jepson said Joshua represented one of many people who would not have been around if it had not been for blood donors.
"Joshua was born 15 weeks premature and needed blood transfusions to survive his first few months," she said.
Miss Jepson said the competition had been made fairer for small organisations this year with organisations grouped under employee or member size in the competition for the WA Business News-sponsored summer hero challenge.
Curtin University is the organisation to beat.
It has won the challenge for the past two years.
Last year, the university was followed by the WA Police Service, the National Australia Bank, BankWest and Rotary.
