Diversified contractor Lendlease has secured a $53.2 million state government contract to provide maintenance services for the Graham Farmer Freeway tunnel for the next six years.
Under the Main Roads contract, Lendlease will complete operation and maintenance services for the tunnel, along with incident response services.
There were seven other tender submissions put forward for the contract.
Main Roads’ incident response service deploys mobile road crews on Perth’s freeways and CBD roads to assist with the quick and safe removal of broken down vehicles, debris and other obstructions.
The IRS is an ‘on road’ monitoring service, but does not offer general breakdown assistance like roadside services or towing companies.
Each month the IRS attends on average 60 breakdowns, 70 incidents and collects over 400 items of debris.
Since February, Main Roads has trialled an expansion of hours and geographical coverage for the IRS.
