Forrestania Resources has moved to bolster its feedstock source for the company's emerging gold production business in Western Australia, signing a binding ore purchase agreement with ASX-listed High-Tech Metals for up to 400,000 tonnes of gold-bearing ore.
The deal gives the company preferential access to ore from High-Tech’s Mt Fisher gold project for a maximum of 24 months, providing another supply of future mill feed for the company’s burgeoning hub-and-spoke processing strategy.
Under the agreement, ore will be purchased on commercial terms determined by its grade, metallurgical recovery and prevailing gold prices, less agreed treatment and processing charges. The delivery schedules and specific processing campaigns will be agreed between the two companies during the term of the agreement.
The deal represents a key step in Forrestania’s strategy to become a significant WA gold producer by leveraging its two processing hubs at Edna May and Lake Johnston. The company has been assembling a significant inventory of ore sources to feed its two hungry plants, building a global mineral resource inventory that now tops a whopping two million ounces.
Forrestania's initial focus is on the restart of its Edna May gold project, with first ore processing targeted for December, while its second hub at Lake Johnston is slated for commissioning in early 2027. Ore from Mt Fisher will likely feed the 2.9-million-tonne-per-annum Edna May processing plant, which is significantly closer to the deposit than the 3.2Mtpa Lake Johnson facility.
Management says it is already executing on that strategy by hauling ore from its own Taipan deposit and, under a similar recent ore purchase agreement with Star Minerals, from the Tumblegum deposit to Edna May ahead of the restart. Potential feedstock for the plant also includes the recently acquired Tampia project, which holds a 223,300-ounce resource. In a neat piece of operational history, Tampa's previous owner, Ramelius Resources, previously trucked ore from Tampa to the very same Edna May plant Forrestania now owns.
Other spokes in the growing wheel include a 285,700-ounce resource at its Lady Ada and Lady Magdalene deposits and the 212,400-ounce British Hill deposit, from which ore has already been stockpiled at the Lake Johnston plant ahead of its own restart.
Forrestania Resources executive chairman David Geraghty said: “The Ore Purchase Agreement with High-Tech Metals continues Forrestania's strategy of establishing a portfolio of third-party ore opportunities around our processing hubs. As we progress towards the restart of the Edna May gold project, Forrestania is already executing on that strategy through the haulage of ore from our Taipan and Tumblegum deposits to Edna May ahead of first ore processing planned for December 2026.”
The agreement lands amid a strong Australian gold backdrop, with spot prices hovering around A$6000 an ounce. The broader Western Australian market is also seeing a renewed focus on processing hubs and third-party ore, with producers pursuing toll-treatment arrangements and nearby deposits to lift plant utilisation and increase production.
On the corporate front, Forrestania has set a firm deadline for its takeover of Zenith Minerals, declaring its now-unconditional offer, first lobbed on June 9, will close at 5pm (AWST) on November 12. The company has ruled out any further extensions unless legally compelled under section 624(2) of the Corporations Act 2001, which provides for an automatic extension in certain circumstances, effectively putting the clock on Zenith shareholders still weighing up their options.
With 62.04 per cent of Zenith already tucked under its belt, Forrestania appears to be firmly in the box seat as it hunts down the magic 90 per cent ownership mark needed to trigger compulsory acquisition. Getting there would hand the company full control of Zenith and its 675,000 ounces of gold resources, adding another important piece to the puzzle in its broader ambition to build a consolidated WA gold powerhouse.
With the clock ticking down to the planned December 2026 restart of the Edna May processing plant, Forrestania appears to be systematically assembling the key ingredients of a genuine gold production business. Securing multiple ore sources, both internal and external, is a well-trodden path for aspiring producers looking to de-risk their operations and maximise the value of their expensive processing infrastructure.
By locking in a substantial third-party ore source to complement its burgeoning two-million-ounce resource base, Forrestania is not only feeding the beast but also giving itself options. In a gold market where every ounce counts, a flexible and scalable supply chain could be the key that unlocks the door to the company becoming WA’s next successful gold producer.
