A tourism drive by the Collie Shire will see the establishment of a new $7.7 million resort-style complex to attract visitors to the area.

The new complex – which forms stage one of an overall major development plan – will be located on the Collie River and be enveloped by the Collie golf course.
The project is planned to capitalise on a competitive edge by integrating a proposed chalet-style resort with the highly reputable Collie golf course.
While the site provides a beautiful, natural setting, it is less than four kilometres from the town centre and has ready access to all services.
The proposed development will overlook the banks of the river and golf green, and will include a restaurant, conference room, hotel-style rooms and twenty-six twin-key cabins and one-bedroom apartments with a swimming pool, barbecue area, tennis court and private jetty.
The South West Development Commission has spent $7,500 in market research into the viability of the project, and a further $10,000 towards rehabilitating an eight kilometre stretch of the river within the town area.
Prior to this the Commission spent $10,000 developing a foreshore plan for the Collie River.
A feasibility study is now underway by the Shire to develop a parcel of land adjacent to the complex which will be offered to investors to develop a residential estate.
A Shire spokesman said it was looking at the logistics of creating freehold title for the land.
Stage two will involve excising a large parcel of land and creating the lots for development.
