CPC Engineering has successfully completed the civil, structural, mechanical, piping and electrical scopes for the Con Leach Project at AngloGold Ashanti’s Sunrise Dam operation, located approximately 55 kilometres south of Laverton in Western Australia.
The project followed CPC’s completion of the initial study phase and transition into detailed design, with construction activities commencing in late 2024 after the release of critical concrete and tank platework drawings to enable early works.
CPC’s scope of works included more than 5,000 cubic metres of earthworks, 700 cubic metres of concrete, 150 tonnes of platework, 100 tonnes of structural steel, 2.6 kilometres of piping, installation of approximately 300 valves, and 17 kilometres of cabling. At peak, the project workforce comprised approximately 50 personnel on site.
Key construction milestones included completion of the concrete ring beams by January 2025, enabling tank welding to commence during peak summer conditions in the Goldfields. Tank fabrication was completed by May, followed by surface treatment works and final civil completion to support installation of the remaining mechanical and electrical scope.
Practical completion and water commissioning were achieved on schedule, with CPC demobilising from site following the successful completion of all works.
The project recorded approximately 100,000 work hours without a lost time injury, reflecting CPC Engineering’s strong safety culture and disciplined approach to delivery in challenging, remote operating environments.
CPC Engineering Chief Executive Officer Glen Weir said the successful delivery demonstrated the company’s capability to execute complex, multi-discipline construction projects in high-temperature and remote conditions.
“Delivering this scope required close coordination across our design, construction, operations and safety teams, as well as a strong working relationship with the client,” Mr Weir said.
“Completing the project safely and on schedule is a credit to the commitment and professionalism of everyone involved.”
CPC Engineering continues to deliver integrated engineering, construction and maintenance services to the resources sector supporting major gold, base metals and energy operations in Australia and abroad.
