Business News received three accolades at the 2025 AABP awards, including golds for breaking news coverage and website design and silver for its daily email.

Business News has received international recognition for its journalism and digital products, taking home three accolades at this year’s Alliance of Area Business Publishers (AABP) awards.
The publication won gold for Best Coverage of Breaking News, gold for Best Website, and silver for Best Daily Email at the 2025 AABP ceremony in Ottawa.
Journalist Isabel Vieira was recognised for her reporting on the uncertainty surrounding the Ravensthorpe nickel operations in September last year.
Judges described the piece as a “well-written and well-sourced” entry that “deftly focuses on the impact of the closure while not allowing necessary background and scientific explanations to overshadow the human aspects”.
Business News also received top honours in the Best Website category for a second consecutive year.
The AABP judges said the site stood “in a class of its own” with a “crisp, clear design” and a “carefully crafted aesthetic” that prioritised editorial content.
And Business News’ Afternoon Wrap newsletter, produced by a team of reporters including Ms Vieira, Nadia Budihardjo, Tom Zaunmayr, Jack McGinn, Claire Tyrrell, Liv Declerck, Justin Fris, and Sam Jones, also won silver for Best Daily Email.
Judges praised the email for its clean layout and ease of navigation, calling it “thoughtfully curated, well-executed, and clearly built with the reader in mind”.
Managing editor Sean Cowan, who attended the awards function in Ottawa on Friday night, said the awards were recognition of Business News' commitment to putting its readers first.
"Our only aim is to provide our readers with the information they need to make business decisions, and these awards recognise that," he said.
"From the ease of use to our data-integrated news website to our flagship afternoon email, the judges were clearly impressed with how we provide our readers with news and data.
"And the quality of our reporting is also unmatched. The best coverage of breaking news award is one we strive to win every year."
The latest accolades extend Business News’ strong showing at the 2024 AABP awards: last year, the editorial team took home seven honours, including gold for the best body of work by a single journalist and Best Daily Email.
The AABP awards are judged by faculty from the University of Missouri School of Journalism and aim to recognise editorial and design excellence in business publications across the United States and beyond.
Business News has received 20 AABP awards since 2022, underscoring growing recognition for its breaking news coverage and website design.
