The Department of Housing and Works (DOHW) was established on July 1, 2025, following the Western Australian Government's public sector reform initiative.

It was amalgamated from the former Department of Finance,  Housing Authority from the Department of Communities, Social Housing Works and Tenancy Management from the Department of Communities and Government Regional Officer Housing from the Department of Communities.

Its purpose is to oversee the construction, maintenance and refurbishment of public housing and other key government infrastructure projects, including public schools and police stations.
