Belmont-based NRW Contracting has been selected as preferred contractor to design and construct two new bridged interchanges on Reid Highway.
Construction on the $225 million Reid Highway interchanges project is tipped to begin by the middle of the year and completed by 2026, with both federal and state governments having contributed $112.5 million towards the initiative.
The two interchanges will replace exisiting signalled intersections at both Altone Road and Drumpellier Drive/Daviot Road.
It is hoped this will reduce congestion and improve safety at both intersections, which make up two of the five remaining signalised intersections along the major arterial road.
Federal transport minister Catherine King said the upgrades would likely result in commuters spending less time in traffic.
"Reid Highway is a vital freight route across Perth’s northern suburbs and the progressive removal of signalised intersections is delivering shorter, safer and more predictable journey times," Ms King said.
Western Australian transport minister Rita Saffioti added the project was important, given Reid Highway's increased usage.
"The state government continues to invest in Perth’s north-eastern corridor to provide high-quality transport links to meet the needs of our growing communities," Ms Saffioti said.
Additionally, a new bridge and subsequent underpasses for cyclists and pedestrians will be constructed, ensuring a shared-path set up between West Swan Road and Malaga Drive.
