Just weeks after Kairos Minerals moved to double its Pilbara land holdings, the Perth based company has collected a suite of high-grade rock chips going up to nearly 13 grams per tonne gold at its Skywell project in the Pilbara with five samples coming in at an average grade of 4.8 grams per tonne gold across a 130-metre length of outcropping quartz vein.
The company recently carried out an initial scouting mission to investigate the prospectivity of Skywell and management said it was specifically looking at the intrusive-related gold potential of the project.
The area includes a regionally significant package of rocks known as the Sisters Supersuite that host DeGrey’s uber-high-grade famed Hemi discovery, just 60km to the north east.
Kairos Executive Chairman, Terry Topping, said: “The presence of gold grades at these levels has defined a significant high-grade gold anomaly which clearly warrants follow-up.”
“Gold can often occur in quartz veins on the margins of the sort of big intrusive-features we are targeting for potential Hemi-style discoveries, so this increases our confidence in the scale and potential of the opportunity here.”
With a geological team currently in the field at its Kangan project, undertaking an ultrafine soil sampling program, Kairos said it will relocate the crew to Skywell to run a systematic soil sampling program there as soon as possible. Results from the soil sampling will assist the company to define drill targets.
The “ultrafine” soils method is a relatively new analytical workflow developed in a partnership between CSIRO, the Minerals Research Institute of Western Australia, the Geological Survey of Western Australia, several exploration companies and LabWest.
According to CSIRO, the ultrafine process analyses particles less than two microns in size such as clays and iron oxides. These ultrafine particles have a greater surface area, which can therefore concentrate gold and other metals at increased signal-to-background ratios - making the hunt for buried gold riches all the more ‘systematic’ - especially in deeply weathered terrain.
The Kangan project is also part of Kairos’ broader Pilbara gold project, which encompasses over 1,700 km2 and six priority areas including the Skywell, Croydon, Lalla Rookh, Wodgina and Mt York prospects.
Kairos also said it is aiming to kick off a drilling program mid-July at Mt York, which already contains a healthy 20.93Mt grading 1.3g/t for 873,500 ounces of gold.
Meanwhile, the company has just finished an extensive airborne magnetic and radiometric survey comprising 13,920-line kilometres. The data processing phase is now underway and will assist the company in its geological and structural interpretation of this highly prospective part of WA.
