Amana Living to run Collier Park Village

Amana Living is set to run Collier Park Village, following a $21.8 million deal with the City of South Perth to transfer ownership of the facility.

The Como residential retirement village has been owned and operated by the local council for close to four decades, but has been running a $500,000 loss annually.

Additionally, the City of South Perth said up to $200 million would need to be spend on capital upgrades to the Bruce Street facility over the next 20 to 30 years.

Collier Park Village contains 169 two-bedroom units, BBQ areas, gazebos, caravan bays and landscaped gardens, and is home to 178 residents.

The site also contained a 40-bed retirement hostel. The hostel closed in 2014, but the building remains. 

The City of South Perth agreed to transfer ownership of the site to Amana Living, for a nominal purchase price of $1 and a liability amount of $21.81 million at its council meeting on Tuesday.

Amana Living’s board approved the transaction the following day.

The aged care operator has no immediate redevelopment plans for the site, but has assured all existing residents that they will remain at the village.  

City of South Perth mayor Greg Milner said the agreement would ensure the long-term sustainability of the village and significantly enhance the quality of life and amenity for residents.  

“Amana Living's expertise and capital investment will elevate the standard of retirement living at the Village, supporting our residents to live their best lives,” he said.

The City of South Perth stated that without Collier Park Village, the city would be “more able to concentrate on its core services and allocate resources to ensuring it can deliver on the expectations of the wider community”.

“The transaction is not expected to have a positive or negative effect on the current provision of other services by the city, however, retention of existing reserve funds and the city no longer incurring annual operating losses to operate the village will assist to reduce reliance on general rates,” the city’s business plan read.

The transfer is expected to be complete by June 30.
